The Big One (12-1)

Sunday 17th June 2012

Sutton Stop.

It seems that it is going to be a busy day, with many boats on the move starting well before 8am. Most seem to be heading down towards Coventry possibly going to the Steam Boat Gathering. The weather is still overcast, but with the occasional sunbeam bursting through.

We await the arrival of Steph from her home in Birmingham. We are planning to eat out later. The dogs have gone out for a good run as a prelude to us escaping from them for a couple of hours.

I have noticed that our clarifier looses heat over night. yesterday I noticed that the hot water pipes between the clarifier and the engine were still warm. It seems that there is some sort of heat syphon going on and the engine block is being used as a heat sink. To test my hypothesis I placed a clamp on one of the pipes overnight. This morning the water was warm enough for a shower. It looks like a check valve needs to be placed in the line or maybe the pipework to the clarifier needs to be inverted.

Old working boats Radient and butty Ilkestone passed at 11am.

Then at 11:20 hotel boats Snipe and butty Taurus passed going the other way.

Steph and Scott arrived at lunch time from Birmingham and we went into Coventry for a meal at The Old Mill. On our return back to Rosie we found out from an Australian couple (John and Helen on Nb Pyxis) that the dogs had been "Singing" for a while after we left.

Later I spotted Steam Narrowboat Boat Radnor moored next to the Hawkesbury Bridge hole. Must have arrived after we went for a meal.
