The Big One (2-6)

Friday 13th of April 2012
Bulls Bridge to Bulls Bridge

08:30 Time to decide where we are going. It seems that a cruise over the next few weeks up through York and beyond is the way to go. However, for today we have decided to sit it out as the weather does not look to be so good.

10:00 Had a chat with a few other boat owners and they are also looking at a trip up the Yorkshire Ouse so we will follow in their footsteps later in the week.

11:00 Poppy the dog has decided to take a trip into the canal. She jumped for the bank - and missed. One bath later, she looks as good as new. As it was to be dog improvement day - we also gave Abbey her first trim of the year. Lots of hair was removed which has provided some nesting materials for the local birds, who cleared away everything in no time at all.

13:00 The Memsahib decided to go to the local supermarket - this coincided on her return with the biggest downpour we have had so far. At the same time there was plenty of activity from the local charity boats taking people on trips along the canal. I was going to have a word with one of them who was creating a bow wave. However, he must have read my face and there was a sudden reduction in engine noise as the boat quickly lost speed.

19:00 Due to the overcast weather and some shading by nearby trees we had to run the engine to do a bit of battery charging as the output from the solar panels has not been very good. I also repositioned the boat a little further along the mooring to get a satellite signal - ready for the grand prix qualifying session tomorrow morning.
