Spring Summmer Cruise 2014 ❶

Tinsley Marina to Doncaster Town Moorings

Overnight: Weather consisted of  frequent showers but the wind helped to clear away the last of th
e smog. Broken cloud soon turned to 100% overcast.

Morning: Dry but increasingly overcast. Most of the locks in the Tinsley flight were set in our direction. In a little over an hour we were out onto the river. Jordan's weir was deep in mud and we had to power our way in to the slurry and then slide over the top. CaRT tug was moored on the lock landing at Ickles Lock, making for a dangerous climb off the boat. Rotherham town lock was soon behind us and we were onto the electric locks.

Afternoon: Overcast, drizzle occasional heavy showers. Only one sluice working at each end of Eastwood Lock made for a slow passage. Just after Aldwark Lock we had the first Kingfisher of the cruise. Soon we needed to put the pram cover up because of the rain, and carried on cr
uising in the rain for a couple of hours. At Levitt Hagg we came across a snake swimming across the river. Soon afterwards a group of Rooks were giving giving a male Buzzard a hard time. The Wire Lady trip boat was taking up most of the lock landing at Sprotborough Lock. Making for a difficult climb ashore.

Evening: The town moorings had a boat sized space that Rosie just fitted into. It remained overcast for the rest of the day.

Wildlife: Kingfisher, Grass Snake swimming, Buzzard and Kestrel.
