The Big One (26-7)

Doncaster to Ickles Lock

The weather is overcast and a biting cold wind from the north. Never the less there were the odd patches of weak sunshine from time to time.

We were off to an early start intending to moor up overnight at the Rotherham Boat Club. A pretty uneventful trip, with no problems other than most locks were set against us. The flood lock gates at Swinton were closed even though the water level was the same at both sides.

No other boats seen moving until we were at Prices Lock (Waddingtons) where the local trip boat was just about to set off with a load of passengers. As we made our way into the lock, we could see that the exit was blocked by a CART boat. Which just happened to be moored up on a single line. Allowing it to move around and occasionally blocking the lock exit.

Alternator problems were overcome by using our onboard 3kw generator for the second time. The first time we used it was to test it! The leisure battery bank was soon topped up and we settled down for the night.

Wildlife: Several Kingfishers spotted between Doncaster and Kilnhurst.

I have created a poll that will run between now and the 1st of January 2013. It's not very scientific. Its a simple question "Will CART Succeed". You have three choices Yes, Unsure and No. Now you can vote for one of the three choices. If you change your mind before the poll closing date. You can come back and change your vote. (I wish we could do that for politicians) You will find the poll option on the right hand side just below the members pictures.
