Market Drayton - Twinned with Royston Vasey
The people round here are outwardly reserved yet friendly. However, there is a tendancy to keep an eye on anyone and everyone around the area. We have been tipped off about "Tubbs" the local busybody who likes to take charge of running the area. Tubbs, was described as the leading light in the Market Drayton Moorings Maffia.
I was expecting to hear "This is a village mooring - for village people!"
Everyone seemed to know just when we had arrived and exactly where we had moored. The fact that we had two dogs had been noted. Where we excerciced them and that we also scooped the poop. For the first time ever we were even asked to produce our boat insurance certificate before we were allowed to pay for the overnight mooring.
Tubbs and Edward Tattsyrup are the co-proprietors of the "Local Shop" which is situated on a hill just above the village of Royston Vasey. It is a Local Shop intended only and exclusively for local people. Tubbs and her husband (who also happens to be her brother) Edward, do not approve of outsiders who do not understand their local customs and practices.
They are extremely distrustful of any outsider. Although their shop is full of "precious things" they are loathe to part with their stock. Tubbs wears a wedding band made of string, eats hair sandwiches and eats onions as though they were apples. Although she's a determined killer, there is at the same time an almost childlike innocence to her.
But Tubbs is not alone. There is also an Edward Tattsyrup type. Who can be seen doing the exactly the same thing at exactly the same time each day. We don't know if Edward Tattsyrup is her brother, husband or both!
The washer is on overtime. The pram cover is full of washing waiting to go onto the tiller mounted rotary clothes line. Welcome to the high humidity world of Rosies laundry!
