Rugby Visitor Moorings Braunston Turns Bridge 88
Up early to bright sunshine but a strong breeze. First job was a visit to Maplins in Rugby to pick up a 30a fuse holder. Plus a chance for the memsahib to do some last moment shopping.
On our way by 11:30 and a steady cruise towards the first of the Hillmorton Locks. A crew proceeding us was busy running water down into the first pound as we arrived. We followed a hire boat up the flight and in the top lock managed to overtake. The canal level above Hillmorton was down and in a number of places we were touching the bottom. At Tarrys bridge I was down the weed hatch to clear a build up of debris on the prop.
In the afternoon the sun became very intense as the cloud broke up and the breeze dropped away. There was quite a pull on the canal for around an hour as a considerable amount of water must have been drawn off.
Cabined butty (51) Success |
Heritage boats were seen in a few places, waiting to go into Braunston at the weekend. Mike and Krystyna Woodings on Draco and butty Success.
The sunset tonight was very spectacular, still going strong at 11pm!

Wildlife: Kite, Buzzard, Yellow Wagtail, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker were the highlights.
