The Big One (11-3)

Tuesday 12th June 2012

Fazeley Junction - Baddesley Basin

07:00 We may or may not move today. The weather will dictate our day once again. The BBC suggest that Tue/Wed/Thu will be mixed sunshine and the odd shower. However, next weekend will be dire with further heavy rain.

It has been quite a while since our last visit to Hawksbury Junction (early March 2010) and the pleasures of the good food at the Greyhound. We are planning to have another meal there with family members later this week.

10:00 We decided to move on as it was overcast but did not look like it would rain. First job was to fill up with water on the Fazeley Junction water point. We were joined by Pete and Marilyn on Nb Megan. We said goodbye but plan to meet up again in a few weeks time on the Shropshire Canal as we head back north. Possibly going via Skipton or over the Huddersfield narrow, depending on the water situation.

We had to wait in a queue at each lock on the Atherstone flight with up to three boats waiting. However we let the boats in front push on a bit while we held back and we eventually started to arrive just as the boat in front was entering the next lock. There were few boats going the other way.

17:00 We booked in for the night at Baddersley Basin boatyard to do some of the backlog of washing that has been piling up. The Memsahib knows how to enjoy herself and the Zanussi was soon busy and the rotating clothesline was soon full.

Wildlife: Buzzard, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Pied Flycatcher, Grey Wagtail, Green Woodpecker, Mallard, Coot, Waterhen, Kestrel, Tree Sparrow, Dunnock. Great Tit, Blue Tit and the best spot of the day a Coal Tit.
