Date 17 June 2015
Overnight the weather was overcast and mild.
Morning: Early breakfast saw us under way by 10:30. First were two tunnels. Shortwood Tunnel is 614 yards long and Tardebigge Tunnel is 580 yards long. Then we arrived at the top of Tardiebigge Flight of 30 locks with a fall of 217 feet.
Afternoon: We were following an elderly couple down the flight and we occasionally had to go ahead of them and set some of the locks. A CaRT boat 'Scorpio' coming up the flight caused a halt to boats going down for about 25 minuets. They had a group setting (up to three locks) ahead of them. We were stood in a lock waiting for the boat to come up through the three locks to reach us! - I had a word which I sensed they were not best pleased about.
Evening: Out for a meal in the Crown at Stoke Wharf.
Wildlife:
Birds: Magpie, Carrion Crow, Rook, Blackbird, Mallard, Mute Swan, Goldfinch, Robin, Blue Tit, Pied Wagtail, Coot, Moorhen, Canadian Goose, Grey Heron, Wood Pigeon, Kestrel, Greater Black Backed Gull, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Black Headed Gull, Swallow, House Martin and Swift.
