Smartphone Apps for Boaters (21)

No matter which genre of smartphone you own or are thinking to buy. The apps that are available will have an influence on how happy you are with the phone. There are plenty of top quality apps that you can download. However for me There's always a remarkable sub-selection of apps that are totally free.

The wonderfully named 'Android' phone seems to have cornered the market in the same way that VHS did with tape systems. Android's open source strategy is the main factor for its success. Being a free platform has expanded the Android device install base, which in turn has driven growth in the number of third party multi-platform and mobile operator apps available.

When out on your boat finding a satellite TV signal can be pretty difficult to achieve. You either spend a few hundred pounds on the automated systems. Alternatively you can attempt to find the satellite by using a compass. And with an audio satellite detector swing the dish around.

The Satellite Director application replaces all of that. The application is free.

Satellite Finder is a tool to configure a satellite dish and find tv channels. This Satellite Finder app works in view mode as if you were about to take a photograph.  It is not taking any photographs but works in preview mode to show you where the satellite is on the sky. This is useful as in this mode it can highlight when the wanted satellite is hidden behind a building or trees.

You just enable the GPS in your Android phone. Select the desired TV satellite from the list. (the satellite list contains details of over 280 broadcast satellites) Then point your phone towards the sky to find on screen the TV satellite.

The correct direction and angle into the sky have been found for the satellite when the white ball is in the white circle and the cyan ball is in the cyan circle.
