Holme Pierrepoint to Cranfleet Lock

It rained all night and then it rained for a while this morning. (for a change) Many boats were leaving early this morning, because of the weather forcast. We made a fairly uneventful start up river as the flow of water seemed quite subdued and things were going quite well. In company with Nb Bonnie we made good time onto the Beeston Cut. As the sun had broken through and as we had to drop the pram cover down for the low bridges along this part of our journey. We enjoyed the sunny spell. The dogs had their photographs taken several times be gongoozelers.

Ian on Nb Bonnie stopped for water and so we continued onto Sainsbury where we soon had the on-board stores replenished. We then made our way through Nottingham and back once more onto the Trent. The water flow was still quite subdued and once again we made good time up river. As we approached Cranfleet Lock the flow on the Trent increased and we had to punch our way up river for the last mile or so.  We waited for Ian to arrive at Cranfleet and helped to lock one  boat up and one down before he arrived. Then we had a torrential storm with thunder and lightening as we operated the lock for Ian!

Wildlife: Oystercatcher, Sand Martin and the usual Swifts, Swallows and House Martins in abundance. The best spot of the day was a Buzzard being mugged for getting too close to a Rookery. Quite a few common terns were also spotted.
