Mercia Marina to Stenson Lock
1 May 2015
Overnight the weather was clear skies and that ensured a cold start to the day!
Morning: Well most of yesterday was spent getting ready to set off on our Spring into summer cruise. Initial cruising plans include exploring the Erewash Canal before departing in ernest down the Grand Union. Top up the water tank and then stopped for a pump-out. Followed by a visit to to the Marina Office to say goodbye. We will miss our friends at Mercia
Afternoon: Steady cruise along the canal met four boats going the other way. Boat leaving the visitor moorings on our arrival so a space created to move into. Two boats still moored up here that have exceeded the limits. Had a very good meal in the Bubble Inn.
Evening: Relaxing by taking photographs of the sunset. Listening to the radio and an hour or two in front of the goggle box - watching goggle box.
Wildlife:
Birds: House Sparrow, Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Rook, Blackbird, Mallard, Mute Swan, Chiffchaff, Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coot, Waterhen, Canadian Goose, Wood Pigeon, Black Headed Gull, Swallow, House Martin, Swift, Pheasant, Tufted Duck the highlight being a pair of Buzzard.
