Spring Cruise 2013 (8)

Witsunday Pie Lock to Drakeholes Wharf.

Weather: Very cold start and the wind chill seemed to be about -10.

A steady run along the canal on tick over as the bottom is very close to the top along this section. Only one other boat seen on the move today. The wind was making steering very difficult. Arrived at Drakeholes wharf just after 1pm and we were glad for the respite from the cold. There is a new kind of electrical bollard on the wharf, but we were unable to find any instructions on-line for gaining access to electrical power. Emailed CaRT customer services - no reply was forthcoming.

Wildlife: A huge flock of Redwing's were spotted raiding the fields of winter barley. The Redwing is common as a winter bird. Its creamy strip above the eye and orange-red flank patches make it very distinctive. They roam across the UK's countryside, feeding in fields and hedgerows.
