Keadby Lock to West Stockwith
Weather: Cold and overcast with a biting wind. Today's forecast from the Met Office: "Frosty start with early fog patches giving way to sunny spells with possibility of sleet or scattered showers later. Chance of snow on higher ground. Feeling warmer in sheltered areas. Winds light to variable" ....Have they missed anything?
Underway: Into the river lock by 10:00 am, with a very cold wind. Out onto the river by 10:20 am. A steady flood tide assisted our passage up river to West Stockwith. There was some fresh water in the river that limited the push upstream. We still arrived before the slack water period and had to turn upstream of the lock before making our way in.
There was an impromptu get together in the West Stockwith boat house where we all gathered to get warm and to enjoy a beer. A side order of chips from the local chippy was added to two different types of curry that the Gruffalo had prepared during the trip up the river Trent. By late afternoon, everyone had adjourned back to their boats to have a kip!
Wildlife: Shelduck and a large skein of Barnacle geese passed overhead.
