The Big One (8-2)

Monday 21st May 2012.

Boston Visitor Mooring.

Cold and overcast, the wind had picked up quite a bit overnight and the river was pulling the boat against the pontoon due to the sluice running a lot of water at low tide.

It was time for Rosie to be checked out for her BSC (Boat Safety Certificate) so we arranged for an engineer to come and do the tests. The Memsahib took the dogs for a walk to Antons Gowt and back which gave enough time for the boat examiner to finish his examination of Rosie.

Rosie metaphorically "sailed" through the test with only one item to be rectified. The replacement of her fire extinguishers  which had reached their sell by date. So it was off to Halfords so see what they had. A suitable extinguisher was available at £29.95 a pop and we only needed replace all 5 to fulfil the BSC requirements!!!! We had been told that Wicks also do extinguishers.

So we called into Wicks the builders merchants. The exact same fire extinguishers were on offer for £14.29 a pop!  While we were in Halfords, I wanted to get some engine oil to do an oil change. £28.25 for a branded 5 litre container. So we went to ASDA and purchased the same branded oil for £20.00.

One engine oil change was soon completed, and the oil filter was also replaced. I need to get a diesel filter and an air filter for the next engine service.

We called into Goodbarnes Yard for lunch. (next door to St Botolph's Church AKA  "The Boston Stump") It was from their two for a tenner menu. I had the barbecued spare ribs and the Memsahib had grilled chicken. It was first class fodder. We also managed to do a quick shop in town.

This evening I filled up with water and we are good to go in the morning. Though if the river is pulling off strong we might wait until the flow slackens off and wait for the rising tide.
