Summer Autumn Cruise 2011 (3-5)

Friday 9th September 2011
Barrowford Top Lock to Rishton.
Day 19.

A much quieter night with little rain or wind noise to disturb my sleep. We were up bright and early to take advantage of the better weather and head down the Barrowford seven. However, it was overcast and producing that fine mist rain. The sort that that soaks you to the skin. We came down the locks with David on Nb Jord-Annie who has just been repainted and looks a real treat. It was good to share the locks with David as he is  working his way back home single handed. We waved goodbye at the bottom lock and we were on our way. After lunch the sun broke through and the afternoon was quite pleasant.

We topped up the water yesterday evening in preparation for today. We tried to do a self pump out at the same time, but for some reason I could not get it to work. I know what the problem is but I need to be back home to fix it! We stopped at Reedley Marina for a pump out.

Gannow Tunnel (559 yards) which was quite dry inside when compared to the waterfalls in Foulridge tunnel.

I went out with the detector and found several different type of Bat.  Daubenton 4, Pipistrelle3, Noctule 6. Between Side Beet bridge 108 and Railway Bridge 105A is a car dealership. Their bright white security lights attract all kinds of moths and seemingly bats. The noctules are there in good numbers and very easy to observe because of the amount of light.

Daily Total
