Summer Autumn Cruise 2011 (3-4)

Thursday 8th September 2011

Barrowford Top Lock
Day 18.

We have visitors coming today so we have decided to stay here for an extra day. This will also give the boats on a tight schedule after the stoppage, a better run if we keep out of their way. In June this year Lock 46 in the Barrowford Flight was closed because of a blown cill and lock floor. This time it is exactly the same problem but with lock 51 in the same flight.

Poppy the dog did her second "dip of the trip" when she fell overboard. I was able to grab her collar and hoist her out of the cut. She immediately set off down the towpath on her usual walk. However, she had a shower on her return back to the boat. Abbey the older dog seems to have recovered completely from her bout of illness. She was even playing with a ball in the saloon today.

We will be testing our self pump out kit for the first time. The boat has a slight list which indicates that a pump out is about due. The pump out tank holds 63 gallons which we find lasts for about three weeks. As Billy Connolly would say - "that's a lot of jobbie!"

The rain has finally stopped, the bats are out in force. Three Daubentons before I got off the boat and onto the towpath. 12 Daubentons 3 Pipistrell and several other unidentified ones.

Daily Total
