Summer Autumn Cruise 2011 (3-3)

Wednesday 7th September 2011
Salterforth to Barrowford top lock.
Day 17.

Set off late for a short cruise to Barrowford where there is currently a BW Stoppage and we will not be able to proceed until the problem is fixed. We passed through Foulridge tunnel (1640 yards) which has an old tale associated with it about a cow falling into the canal at one end then making its way through the tunnel before being rescued. It is said it was then taken to the nearby pub and revived with a drink. Also at this point is the large Foulridge Reservoir that feeds water into the canal to maintain water levels.

Paid a visit to to ASDA for provisions and called into a local pet shop for a few pet supplies. To find the pet shop and the ASDA store, from the Barrowford bottom lock follow the towpath until you see a NHS building on the left. Take the first footpath on the left passing a children's playground on the left. Follow the path to the main road. Turn left the pet shop is on the left after 300 yards the ASDA is on the right after a further 100 yards.

At 9 pm the sky cleared and the stars came into view. The wind was still a bit blustery. The bat detector found a few Daubentons skimming the surface of the canal.
