Flying Ants 2014

We have already seen our first few flying ants of 2014, about 2 months before we would expect a peak. We’re keen to capture this unusual behaviour, so if you do see any early emergences please report them to the flying ant survey. The first two years of the survey have produced surprising results, and 2014 looks set to do the same.

Thank you also to everyone who sent us samples last year – the vast majority were the black garden ant (Lasius niger) as we had hoped. Very soon the information about individual records will be available so you can find out which species you collected.

Thank you for your support, and please get in touch if you have any questions.

Best wishes,
Rebecca
