Advanced Boater Test

Have you taken the advanced boater test?

This is a relatively simple boat safety awareness test that you can administer to yourself. You can even conduct the test in the privacy of your own home. This simple and easy to perform test will see if you qualify to be allowed on board a canal boat.

This is a simple procedure that is best conducted in a darkened room. First you need to shine a small torch into one ear. You can use either ear, the test will work equally well. If the beam of the torch shines out your other ear, you have not passed and must never go near the waterways unaccompanied.

However, if while conducting this test you feel the urge to project finger silhouettes of rabbits and eagles onto your bedroom wall. You have passed the entry test for the Inland Waterways Association - advanced marina dwelling - boating scheme.

This public service announcement was brought to you by your local Waterways Partnership. In conjunction with Sustrans, IWA and the Canal and River Trust - A part of the joint towpath users educational service.
